The East Yorkshire coast has one of the highest erosion rates in Europe. Spurn Point is a sand spit that divides the North Sea from the River Humber. Various sea defences have been used over the years to try and slow the erosion down. this shows a breakwater, common sight used to hold the sand and slow the tides and wind effects on the beaches. This one is littered with old ropes and nets from fishermen that have been washed ashore during storms
